What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was once widely used in a variety of building materials. It was a popular building material due to its fire-resistant, tensile strength and insulating properties. Many homes built before the 1980s contained asbestos in ceilings, roofing, fencing, insulation, walls and flooring.
Asbestos can cause a number of serious health problems if fibres are breathed into the lungs. Among the possible deleterious health effects are asbestosis (a chronic lung disease that can cause breathing difficulties), lung cancer, pleural plaques and mesothelioma, which is a cancer of the lining around the lungs and abdomen. The Department of Health has additional information on asbestos health.
If asbestos is left untouched it can be safe. It becomes dangerous when moved, disturbed or damaged and the fibres become airborne.
Since 2003, all products containing asbestos have been banned throughout Australia. However the hazardous material is still present in millions of buildings throughout the country.
This is the first step to know whether or not your building has asbestos-containing materials. All test samples are sent to a lab, accredited by NATA (the National Association of Testing Authorities) for further analysis. You will receive the results within 24 hours. If the sample proves positive, we’ll come up with a plan of action for removal and provide you with a competitively priced quote.
Removing asbestos is a dangerous and complicated process and should only be performed by trained, qualified and licensed professionals. Our asbestos removalists perform projects of all sizes, from single rooms and sheds to entire houses and commercial buildings.
We remove all types of asbestos products including cement, sprayed insulation, insulation boards and pipe insulation. Our asbestos removal services include interior ceilings, kitchens and bathrooms, flooring, shops, warehouses, factories, internal and external walls, roof cladding, garages and much more. We take safety seriously and ensure that every part of your property is protected with dust protection sheeting. On completion, we will ensure that the building is completely decontaminated and 100% free of asbestos. We will then issue a site clearance certificate.
Our asbestos disposal is available for residential homes and commercial or industrial properties. All asbestos material will be disposed safely in controlled waste disposal sites licensed by the Department of Environment and Regulation. We will then decontaminate all of the work areas and issue you with an asbestos clearance report.
Asbestos Site Demolition
We provide safe asbestos site demolition of residential and commercial buildings. Prior to demolition we draw up an asbestos control plan and operate in accordance with it. We then ensure that all hazardous waste and material is cleared and isolated.
The area is then secured, local authorities and relevant agencies are informed and the site is demolished. We then conduct a clearance inspection and the waste is disposed of safely. Any ssbestos cement waste is disposed of in line with the Environmental Protection (Controlled Waste) Regulations 2001. During and post demolition, the air quality of the site is monitored to ensure that no dangerous fibres have been released into the environment.
